On Receiving a Massage...

We realize that many of our clients have been receiving massage for years. We also realize that there are those who have never received a massage, or more importantly, have never received a massage from us.

For centuries people have used massage to preserve Health and cure disease, for there are MANY benefits of massage.  Hippocrates, the father of medicine, wrote, “Hard rubbing binds, much rubbing causes parts to waste, and moderate rubbing makes them grow.”  Our goal is to use massage in conjunction with your needs, to help you maintain good Health.  In order for us to help you with this goal, please read the following guidelines.

A typical massage covers all parts of your body not normally covered by a bathing suit.  Tell the therapist about areas of your body which are injured, tense, sore, or which you are uncomfortable with having massaged.  Also mention any medical conditions that may be affecting you at the time (i.e. High blood pressure, headaches, or recent injury.) The more relaxed you are, the better the massage will be.  Close your eyes, breathe deep and slow, keep conversation to a minimum, but feel free to provide feedback such as harder, or softer.  Allow the therapist to move your limbs into various positions.  Be limp, like a rag doll, and do not try to help move your arms, legs or head. The therapist is a trained professional who will not do anything to hurt you.  Please feel free to speak up if anything is uncomfortable, or ticklish in any way.

The best way to receive a massage is with the body completely unclothed.  Body drapes are provided for your comfort and privacy.  Your body will be covered at all times, except for the area being massaged.  If for any reason you are uncomfortable with this, you may wear underwear or a bathing suit.  Please be mindful that the oils used may stain some clothes.

Very often as the body releases tension during a massage, the mind will release emotion.  If you feel sad, angry, or joyful, do not be alarmed.  Allow yourself to express these feelings by crying or laughing.  You may also become euphoric as you experience the pleasure of total relaxation. Massage is a healing art which encompasses mind, body and spirit.

Many people fall asleep during a massage, an indication that the body and mind are releasing stress and tension.  The therapist will gently wake you when it is time to turn over or end the massage.

We hope that your massage is both enjoyable and beneficial, and that this experience will be the beginning of a lifelong practice to help you enjoy the best possible Health and relaxation.
